Dear Colleagues,
Increasing Demand for Learning - An international Advocacy Guide
As part of a European Socrates Project "International Co-operation in the
field of Lifelong Learning" which is being led by the Hungarian Folk High
School Society (HFHSS), NIACE who are helping to facilitate the project, is
seeking help from colleagues around the World to capture examples of good
practice to put forward for an advocacy guide which is being produced. This
was an outcome from the ICAE World Conference held in Jamaica in August
2001. Please see the attachment of the outcomes from the Workshop held in
Jamaica "Making a case for Adult Learners: Guidebook on Policy Advocacy" -
framework.

Some information about the project: The aim of the project is the
production of an advocacy guide for use by adult educators in increasing
demand for adult learning at local, national and global levels and in a
variety of geographical and societal contexts.
It is hoped that this guide will be made available ready for the
International celebration of ALW in September.
The project objectives include:
1. sharing experiences of learning festivals such as adult learners'
weeks and exploring the opportunities for advocacy arising from
them;
2. exploring practice in advocating for adult learning in different
countries both within and outside Europe;
We would be very grateful if colleagues on the e-mail forum would share with
us examples of good practice which address the project objectives. The
project partners will meet on 29th March 2002, so if you could send us some
text by Wednesday 27th March, we could ensure that it gets included in the
discussions. This would be of great benefit to the project as it would
widen the contributions of countries across the World. Please send any
comments or suggestions or examples to: kate@niace.org.uk
I will keep colleagues updated about the progression of this project and
hope to hear from many of you soon.
Best wishes.
