From the 1st of September, 25 Book Types will be listed on the Bookshelf Bingo event on our Facebook page.

To play you will need to take a picture of a book from your bookshelf and post it with a brief comment under the Book Type that matches. The aim is to be the first to get two rows of five Book Type matches – the problem is that we are the only ones with the bingo grid. Keep playing until we announce who has been the first to complete 2 rows of 5 (vertical, horizontal or diagonal) or complete all 25 Book Type matches for your chance to go in the draw for a small prize.

This event will go live on the 1st of September on the Burnie Library Facebook page.

Yayoi Kusama inspired Paper Collage (Online)

These two workshops will be live streamed via Zoom, you will be sent a link before the class. Cut off date for bookings is Thursday 27 August

Explore Yayoi Kusama’s work over two 3 hour sessions, well known for her use of dense patterns of polka dots and nets as well as her intense large scale environments. Suitable for complete beginners to those with some experience. The cost covers both sessions.

All materials  provided in a kit which will be mailed to you (postage included in the price.)

What you will learn

  • During the first session (Thursday 3rd September) students will learn how to design and draw a vase of flowers, then transfer onto coloured paper and cut and paste onto a patterned background and foreground created using instruction sheets paper and paint pens. Once all elements are glued down the flowers and vase will be embellished using markers and paint pens
  • In the second session (Sunday 6th September) we will unleash our creativity creating a colourful abstract piece of art using the same mixed media paint pen paper collage techniques used in the first session.

What you will get in the materials kit

  • A mixture of coloured paper – 8 colours
  • Thick paper for background – 2 pieces
  • Lead pencil and rubber
  • White, silver or gold and one coloured paint pen
  • Mixed dot stickers
  • Black marker
  • Glue stick
  • Instruction sheets and examples

About the tutor

Anna Kolusniewski is a practising artist, teacher, jewellery and costume designer. Anna teaches a variety of art and craft classes across Melbourne, suitable for all age groups and always lots of hands-on creative fun.

From beauty tips to learning phrases in a new language, our online tutorials will be presented by course trainers and featured on our social media platforms during the week. No sign ups required – follow our Facebook and YouTube pages throughout Adult Learners Week to watch these videos.

Atwea College is also holding a 2020 Adult Learners Week Awards night on Thursday 3rd September which recognises the hard work and commitment towards lifelong learning within the organisation. The winners from the night and their stories will be showcased across our print and digital platforms throughout Adult Learners Week.
