Crime Writing 101

Dr. Ruth McIver, a Dublin-Born, Perth raised crime writer with a PhD in true-crime inspired fiction will host a Crime Writing 101 workshop, focusing on the importance of rhetorical devices in the genre, building gritty characterisation, establishing the right atmosphere, and the role of pacing and tension in creating suspenseful stories that keep readers guessing. She will also help sharpen participant writing skills by answering questions like: “How do I show clues rather than just telling the reader?” ; “How do I create a convincing narrative voice for a detective or a villian?”, “Which POV is best for building mystery?”, “How do I hook the reader from the very first crime scene?”. With targeted writing exercises and engaging fresh story idea she will teach beginners how to improve their technical execution and hot to turn a simple premise into a structured outline for a crime novel.
