Tanya Truscott – South Australia
Learning Ambassadors
Tanya, 46, has undertaken a journey which highlights the transformative power of adult learning. As a single mum of three children under 12, Tanya discovered a new pathway after a career in dentistry, finding her passion in adult and community education and supporting other learners on their learning journeys.
Around eight years ago, Tanya enrolled in the Introduction to Women’s Studies course at Pooraka Farm Community Centre. After completing the course, she stayed on as a volunteer and mentor, supporting women across programs including Aged Care, Disability, Construction, Computing Basics and Women’s Studies.
Five years ago, Tanya’s dedication and contribution as a volunteer and mentor were recognised when she was employed as a Mentor/Facilitator at Pooraka. She continues to be inspired by the difference adult learning can make in people’s lives. Tanya has completed her Certificate III in Women’s Studies and hopes to undertake a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to further support and teach learners. Most recently, she took the reins of a new six-week Basic Advocacy Skills program.
Tanya loves learning and is passionate about creating opportunities for others to build confidence, skills and brighter futures.
