Pathway to business

Liz

Liz connected with Sunshine Coast Libraries’ Read and Write for Life program after researching how to improve her literacy, speaking and listening skills. She read about the program on Sunshine Coast Libraries’ website and joined Maleny literacy class in 2019.

Since joining Maleny literacy class, Liz’s confidence has improved in many ways. She can now read advanced texts with ease, whereas previously she was not confident when coming across new vocabulary and having to comprehend various texts. When speaking, Liz’s confidence has greatly improved. She attributes this to hearing and understanding different accents of her tutors over the years in the literacy class. Liz, who is from a non-English speaking background, has no trouble now understanding English when in class and also in the community generally.

Liz has the ability to confidently converse with everyone she meets and her pronunciation is of a high standard. It is obvious that the Read and Write for Life program has had a great impact on Liz’s life.

Should Liz win the scholarship she would continue with her Tertiary Preparation Program (TPP) at University of Southern Qld – she would like to study Business Administration. While in Maleny literacy class, Liz studies for the IELTS examination which will enable her to progress to further learning pathways and qualifications in Australia.
