Kione O’Neil – Tasmania

Kione O’Neil – Tasmania

Kione had previously had a poor experience with education and found herself in a position where she knew she needed to make a change. Her dream was to become a midwife, but she knew she would need to go through several other steps first. One of the first steps was getting a basic education qualification. That’s how Kione came to enrol in the Certificate II in General Education for Adults at TasTAFE.

Despite a difficult educational background and struggling with mental health, Kione has shown remarkable resilience, determination, and aptitude. She has maintained contact with course teachers, submitted learning and assessment tasks, and is on track to finish this year.

Kione has grown in confidence and self-awareness as she has progressed through the course. She responds well to feedback and has displayed determination in achieving her goals.

Kione says that, with the help of her teacher, she has become more confident and is now “pushing myself in my learning to achieve the goals I’ve set within my education. This course has taught me skills that have changed the way I approach learning for the better and these skills will continue to help me through the rest of my academic journey”.

Following the Certificate II in General Education for Adults, Kione is planning to enrol into a Diploma of Nursing with TAFE Tasmania, which will enable her to become an Enrolled Nurse. She then hopes to continue studying by undertaking a bachelor’s degree in nursing and midwifery.
