FreeJoin us for a special Adult Learners Week event!
Explore with author and Bibliotherapist, Sonya Tsakalakis, on how stories and poems can help us find ways to feel soothed, connected and relaxed.
Alongside comfort and retreat, books offer insight into ourselves and others; they tell us how the world is, was or might be; they are windows into other worlds, whose meanings resonate through the ages. It’s this multiplicity that is at the heart of bibliotherapy, the ancient practice of reading for therapeutic effect.
What is Bibliotherapy?
Bibliotherapy, as a practice, uses literature to guide you through life’s challenges and hurdles:
Struggling with loneliness and anxiety
Finding the complex landscape of relationships difficult to navigate
Sensing that you need more adventure and wonderment in your life
Feeling disconnected from the world around you
Looking to discover a new author to bewitch you
Needing direction in developing a reading habit
Bibliotherapy can also help you discover and contemplate how great writers and thinkers grappled with life’s existential questions.
