Bring a Friend

September 4, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 pm AEST

Free

The event will run between the 4th and 7th of September and is aimed at offering Everyday English and Basic Digital skills to the CALD Community especially targeting women. The idea is to encourage more learners to have confidence in themselves and thus empower them to lead more connected, informed, and independent lives. It, more importantly, promotes social interaction and enables them to access a wide range of resources and opportunities.
The Centre had a middle-aged mother come in with her son requesting Citizenship Classes. We were only taking expressions of interest at the time to eventually commence the course, however, this mother had been in the country for the past 5 years and could barely recognise the English alphabets let alone tell us her name. She then went on to tell us (with her son translating in English) that she hardly ever left the house, rarely ever interacted with anyone, preferred not to shop due to the language barrier and depended on her children to chat with people like us.
During this week, we are encouraging our current students to bring a friend or family member, who would like to study but have never had the opportunity to do so. They are welcome to attend our classes that week for free, to make learning as easy and comfortable as possible and reiterate the idea that ‘it is never too late to learn’.
