Celebrate Adult Learners Week at your local library
September 7 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm AEST
“The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library.” ― Albert Einstein
When was the last time you learned something new? School may be over, but learning is forever, and opportunities are everywhere, especially at the library. Learning doesn’t have to be formal or time consuming. As an adult, you’re in the driver’s seat: you choose the topic, the goal, the time commitment.
Few things are as empowering as being able to learn. Lifelong learning is not only good for your mind: it can also benefit your health, your social life, and your increase your opportunities – as well as enjoyment – in life.
Libraries ACT is your portal to almost endless opportunities and we’ve curated some of them for your enjoyment:
- Learn a language
- Dive into non-fiction
- Get crafty with Creative Bug
- Get handy and try DIY
- Delve into documentaries
- Sharpen your shopping with Choice Magazine
- Access news online (no paywall!)
- Learn local history at the ACT Heritage Library
- Plan, start and manage your business with Gale
- Uncover your ancestry
- Discover a new recipe
Try something new and share what you’ve been learning @Libraries ACT #takethejourney.
Tips for learning something new:
- Follow your interests – is there something you’ve always wanted to try?
- Choose realistic goals (time commitment, learning goal)
- Start with something you already know, and build on it
- Failure is part of the process – you learn when you fail more than when you succeed
- Make it social – try something with a friend or join a group
Maybe you’re an avid lifelong learner. Maybe it’s time for you to rediscover the joy of learning.
Adult Learners Week is a UNESCO initiative supported by the Australian Federal Government and coordinated by Adult Learning Australia. The week highlights opportunities for adults to learn. It runs each year in the first week of September.
