Learn to make Fermented Sauerkraut

September 5, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm AEST

Free

Learn how to create delicious fermented sauerkraut at Barraba Library as part of Adult Learners Week. This hands-on demonstration will teach you how to make it yourself at home from two or three simple ingredients and a few basic kitchen tools, how to store it, and how to know when it’s ready to eat. You will also learn how it ferments and why it can help to promote good gut health!

We will be opening a fresh jar so you can experience first-hand what to expect when your own jar is fully fermented – as the results may surprise you! As this demonstration is taking place in the library, you will unfortunately not be able to eat any on the day. Our instructor has years of experience in fermenting sauerkraut, and is certified in Safe Food Handling.

Prerequisites:

Adults and 18+ only
Do not attend if you are feeling unwell.
You must be (or become for free on the day!) a member of the CNRL network of libraries such as Nundle Library. Membership is free, all you need is proof of residency such as a utility bill or drivers license. Register now online at cnl.nsw.gov.au or do it on the day.
