Outreach Node

Community Outreach Node at Mirrabooka Square in Western Australia

Celebrating Adult learning Week 2020.

The Node runs from 9am until 4pm on a Thursday twice a month.

This SAFE space has been set up at a shopping centre for organisations to offer outreach services and promote cultural inclusion.

Sudbury Community House Association, City of Stirling and The Square Mirrabooka have collaborated to establish a pop-up to offer outreach services at the shopping centre.

The community outreach node or hub will act as a platform for organisations which wouldn’t normally have capacity to set up a site in a shopping centre.

This week people are invited to come and have a photo taken, add a message on our messsage board or fill out the survey for their preferred adult learning activities that can run out of the Sudbury Community Education Hub and Sudbury Community House.

Officially launched by Janine Freeman MLA on the 15th July, 2020. Sudbury Community Education Hub is situated at Sudbury Community House and is part of their Empowering Communities Program.A volunteer coordinator delivers education and support by providing the Mirrabooka community a place and space for adult individuals to share and learn together.

The Be Connected Technology Literacy for over 50’s program is the first to be implemented in the hub.

Sudbury Community House: A place of Community; a place of belonging, being, and becoming where people feel accepted, safe, and free to develop and grow.

Inclusiveness is our nature here at Sudbury Community House, which reflects the needs and aspirations of our community and provides activities in response to community input where everyone is welcome, knowing that we care for their social health and wellbeing.

Sudbury Community House is a Neighbourhood Centre that is a vibrant hub of the community, a place of friendships, formed and nurtured, where people of all ages and all walks of life can really feel that they belong.

Our community family are encouraged to help in the Centre’s organisation, management and use.

A sense of belonging and family is why Neighbourhood Centres like ours are referred to by people as ‘It feels like home’; a welcoming space where everyone can feel a part of something: a place to belong.

We encourage you to be a part of the Sudbury Family community… Call us on (08) 9344 8011 or email admin@sudbury.org.au to see how you can connect to or support the Sudbury Family.

Digital Literacy

Digital skills

This Zoom presentation will feature Dr Anitza Geneve who has over  20 years of experience in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector across various roles including:  teaching, technical, management and currently as a Principal Consultant with TAFE Queensland. In 2018, Dr Geneve was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Professional Scholar to undertake research at MIT Open Learning focusing on the value of a MOOC that would support VET learners with their digital literacy and employability skills and prepare them for the future of work.

Digital Literacy has been recognised as an important aspect of personal, learning and work life. This online session, under the auspice of the Queensland Council for Adult Literacy, will provide an overview of some of the key activities occurring nationally in the VET sector with regards to digital literacy. This includes key government publications including the Joyce review and the update of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). The key question explored, from the VET perspective, is: ‘What is digital literacy?’.

The presentation will be followed by a short annual general meeting of the Queensland Council for Adult Literacy.
