Event tip: Start early

Planning ahead allows time to build a buzz about your Adult Learners Week events. Involve your staff and volunteers in planning. Get together and brainstorm ideas. Get creative and aim for fun events. You’ll find that once people get excited about possibilities their enthusiasm is infectious.

Here’s what best event winners Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre had to say about planning.

‘In the past we’ve celebrated Adult Learners Week on one day but this year the staff really got involved and organised a week long schedule of activities so they really got behind it.

‘Our students are a mix of people doing Australian Migrant English Programs (AMEP) at different levels as well as those doing accredited and pre accredited courses in Language and Literacy. They attend classes 4-5 days a week here so having a whole range of different excursions and events for different groups to celebrate adult learning was great.

‘The trainers really took the lead and planned things in advance. And it really brought us together as a staff team. And the students loved it!’
