Mary rebuilds her life through study

In February 2019 Mary and her family lost their home in the Tingha Plateau fire. On that day Mary and her two children fled with only the clothes on their backs. Since then Mary and her son have lived in a caravan on the property waiting to rebuild their homes and their lives.

Mary had always been interested in working in Aged Care but in the aftermath of the fire and its debilitating effects returning to study was not an option. Mary became withdrawn, avoided social situations and lost confidence in herself. At the same time she was keen she to find secure paid work to support herself and her family.

After much encouragement Mary enrolled in an Individual Support course at Inverell Community College where her trainers recognise that she is an outstanding adult learner.

Mary is very committed and is a valuable peer to her fellow class mates and gives 100% to her assignments and class activities.

Studying again has given Mary confidence and she has really enjoyed the interaction and social side of being with class mates.

A scholarship would enable Mary to buy a laptop and internet data so that she could work on her assessments at home and progress towards a career in aged care.
