Ways to learn English and improve your reading and writing

Ways to learn English and improve your reading and writing

Learning English can be a big issue for many new arrivals to Australia. Not being able to explain how you feel or finding that no one understands you, can make a person feel even more lost in a strange, new country. Learning to speak English can be tricky but it does offer many social and economic benefits. It can help you become more involved in your community and it can also help you find a job.

Where can I find help?

The Adult Migrant English Language Program (AMEP) is all about helping newly arrived migrants learn to speak and write English. The AMEP program provides for free up to 510 hours of English language tuition for eligible newly arrived migrants.

For further information about the AMEP, please visit Adult Migrant English Program.

There’s also another program called the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program. The SEE program provides English language, literacy and numeracy training, and that’s targeted at job seekers. Eligible people have access to up to 800 hours for free of English language, literacy and numeracy training to help them to participate more effectively in training or in the labour force.

These program are delivered across Australia.
