Cathy Groutsch, Victoria

Cathy Groutsch, Victoria

Forced to resign from administrative work because of arthritis in her hands, Cathy Groutsch realised she needed to do something to keep herself busy and active. Seeing a disability course offered by the Yarrawonga Mulwala Community & Learning Centre, Cathy decided to act on it, believing that there is something out there for everybody.

Cathy was initially nervous as she hadn’t studied anything since she had left school. However, supported and encouraged by her son, she enrolled with the attitude that you are never too old to learn!

Cathy says that doing the course has given her the confidence to seek employment in an area she had never considered before. Initially, she thought that she may not be well suited, but she now believes her maturity and background could be good foundations to be a Disability Support Worker.

With a scholarship, Cathy would like to explore short courses around topics such as autism and working with young people or children with disabilities.
